I Met Elder Soares!

I'm very upset right now, I wrote a really long email and then it got deleted!

But basically got to meet Elder Soares, participate in light the world, and I got to watch the chosen Christmas devotional at the movie theaters, and happy holidays!

Note from Mom,

I forward spencer's emails for him since he has to type all of his emails on his phone.  It makes it diffucult for him to send large files on his device, so I help him out.  With that being said, I thought I could help him out today since his letter got deleted by adding some of the details he might have typed.  I spoke to him at length today, so I'll fill in on some of the details he told me about.

Elder Ulisses Soares visited their mission this past week.  He spoke to their entire mission and also to the Stake where he attends church.  He said he really liked his personality and that he was really funny.  He told us that he spoke about fulfilling their mission to the fullest.  Pretty cool to meet and be taught by an aposle of the Lord!

They have been sharing the "Light the World" campaign quite a bit.  They have a goal to visit 60 families in their homes and share the "Light the World" message before Christmas.  This is keeping him very busy!  He loves the members of his ward and they are very good to the missionaries!  As a mom, it makes us feel great that they are taking good care of our boy.  : )

The ward mission leader somehow reserved a local theater and invited a bunch of people to come watch the Christmas Edition of "The Chosen" in the theatre.  He said it was awesome to be there to see it.  He encourages all of us to watch it on BYU TV before Christmas comes.

Today they were spending their P-day at the local institute building playing Ping pong and fusbol.  He was happy to report that he had beat his companion pretty handedly. They were planning to get in some basketball across the street at the church as well.  He had already done his shopping today and reported that they only spent a bit of their money because the sister that fed them on Sunday has sent them home with so much extra freezer food that they did not need to buy too much this week.  So very kind!

Spencer asked me 2 weeks ago if I would send him a very fat tie for Christmas.  Apparently, Wednesdays are "Fat Tie Wednesday" in the District.  He did not have any fat ties to enter the competitions.  My brother John collected tons of terrible fat ties on his mission and I knew my mom has saved them to make him a quilt, so I gave her a call to see if she could dig one up.  Well, this is the biggest one we could find.  Then we took out the stitching to make it even wider so he could apprently be the Biggest Clown in the district!  LOL. He was so excited to get it and couldn't wait to wear it the next Wednesday! When I asked him today how it went, he said everyone was shocked and said "Heck ya! I won!"  They all said it was the fattest tie they had ever seen!

And the fun apron was a Christmas gift for Spencer last year.  He loves to cook and do art, so I thought it was appropriate that he have his own apron.  I encouraged him to pack it so he did not ruin his clothes in his creations while serving. He did add the green pocket himself to make it his own.

On a side note, he was hopeful to get to do his Visa paperwork on the first of December as the Visa applications were set to open for Austrailia, but the Prime MInister pushed it out until the 15th to watch how the Omicrom Variant performed.  Hopefully, they will reopen the Visas next week.  His companion is getting closer to his original call to Tahiti.  He was expecting his Visa and Passport to arrive in the mail possibly this week. So, Spencer could possibly get a new compainon soon depending on how those details play out.

If any of you would like to mail Spencer a Christmas letter, card or package to his actual apartmet, here is his address:
Elder Spencer Bishop
1405 Stabler Lane Apt 16

PS, We are sending Spencer a Bluetooth keyboard for Christmas to use to type his letters in the future.  Hopefully, sending letters will become a bit easier!
